Wellness Program

The San Carlos School District recognizes the link between student health and learning and desires to provide a comprehensive program promoting healthy eating for district students. In keeping with this goal, the school district has adopted the belief that foods offered to students and staff during the school day and on school grounds be as healthful and nutritious as possible.  The sites listed below provide links to the Kid Chow lunch vendor offers at all San Carlos school sites, handouts on healthy food options and school activities.   Refer to the additional links that provide healthy recipes, nutrition information and school garden/ cooking activities.

Kid Chow is the new provider for hot lunch programs in the San Carlos School District beginning the 2011-2012 school year.

Menu Selection: Kid Chow is a Virtual Cafeteria delivered in a Brown Lunch Bag. Kid Chow offers over 20 lunch entree options per day with an even mix of hot and cold items. Each unique lunch is individually labeled by child and placed in a brown lunch bag which is also individually labeled by child. Hot lunches are also individually labeled but placed in a separate electric warmer for handout during lunchtime.

Customize Your Entrees: Kid Chow offers kids real choice. The entire menu offers customization. Your child can pick the sauce on his/her pasta (tomato, pesto, oil, parmesan, just plain.) Your child can pick the type of bread for his/her sandwich (wheat, sourdough, white, french roll, dutch crunch). Pick the sandwich condiments (lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion, cheese, mayo, ketchup, yellow mustard, dijon mustard, etc.) Your child receives just like it came from home!

Customize Your Sides: Kid Chow offers over 25 healthy side selections daily, including 8 organic seasonal fruits and veggies, dairy including cheese sticks, yogurt tubes, hard boiled eggs and fun but healthier versions of chips and treats. Parents preselect these items when ordering online so kids are guaranteed to get food they like in their child’s lunch bag and parents are guaranteed that kids are eating the healthy foods they approve of too.

Please note that lunch orders must be placed one week in advance.
