Wellness Program

The San Carlos School District Wellness Program is a collaborative effort that provides a coordinated school health program that supports and reinforces health literacy through health education, physical education, health services, and nutrition services. The focus of the effort is to addresses the health and safety of our students through comprehensive policies and programs that offers psychological and counseling services, health promotion for all, outreach to the community and a safe and healthy school environment.

This Wellness Initiative is generously supported by the Sequoia Healthcare District who is committed to providing coordinated school health policies and programs that will support and contribute to the positive development of children and youth.


Child Safety Day This Weekend

The Kiwanis Club of San Carlos is hosting a Child Safety Day, in partnership with the Police and Fire Departments, on Saturday, April 28, 2012, 10 AM – 2 PM, at Central Middle School playground on Cedar Street. Children 12 and under will learn and participate in safety education and activities including bike safety instruction and obstacle course. Other features include child ID kids, raffle prizes including 100 bike helmets, child car seat inspections, fire extinguisher demonstrations, and healthy food and drinks. Bring your bike!

Attention 6th Grade Parents:

All students entering the 7th grade next fall will need proof of a Tdap vaccine. Please note that as of now, there is no grace period or extension like there was during the 2011-12 school year. Under current law, schools do not have the option to provide a grace period. All 7th grade students will need to show proof of Tdap immunization or submit an exemption before starting the 2012-13 school year.

Exemptions – The law allows parents/guardians to choose an exemption from immunization requirements based on their personal beliefs or medical exemptions. For children with medical exemptions, he physician’s written statement should be submitted.


Flu Shot Update

Flu season is here and with new cases of the flu now confirmed, San Mateo County Health officials urge everyone ages 6 months and older to get a flu shot. Flu vaccine is now widely available throughout the county, and the Health Officer recommends that residents visit their healthcare providers early in the flu season to get vaccinated.
